City of Hope – Guild Wars 2 Guide

This one is interesting to say the least. Funstrating I dub it, that’s not a typo.

This one basically involves going to this awesome spoilerific city and then having to undergo three trials.

7:01-Trial 1: Fighting a Gauntlet of Elder Dragon minions with NO healing and random annoying water AoE that hurts you. Not a fan of this one but once I got into a good position and tricked a certain minion into mostly attacking my illusions it went better. I was also disappointed the water wasn’t like a hint at the deep sea dragon, it would have been amazing if you could see a silhouette or something in the water. Instead it’s just..water with attitude. Join the exciting world of Shell Shockers and unleash your inner warrior!

Also I am not sure why but decoy wasn’t working properly here. It’s supposed to well, make a decoy. Really odd, I know now that healing was disabled but that should have worked.

11:13-Trial 2: A maze where you need to activate glyphs within the time limit while avoiding the lightning AoEs of doom that will hurt and stun you for a while. Kill the wisp/spark enemies to gain more time on the clock if you need it. After that just jump up on those stairs and glide to get on top of it and walk/jump to freedom.

15:15-Trial 3: You are in a state where you can’t really fight well and have to resurrect some Pact troops to aide you in defeating a strong Modrem. You do have a stealth at least and can play dead to try to get attention off you. You can buff your allies and debuff enemies with vulnerability so keep that in mind too. You also do have one weak damage attack but It’s probably better just to debuff, buff and hide so you don’t die. You can also eat the berries in the room if you really need a heal.

Trial 3 was funny at least scenario wise. Makes you think they are trolling you, I mean considering the situation is there really time for this kinda stuff? Lol..I mean it’s not like Modremoth is readying to spread his corruption everywhere right?

The cutscene is pretty great art style wise. A-Net knows how to delve into the psyche of the playerbase for what we fear the most…

Also do note this was recorded before A-Net toned down a big part of the mastery grind in HoT, I applaud them for recognizing the problem rather quickly. I hope they do more to fix it but hey it’s a start. I really am concerned what will happen to new players who come into these maps when everyone is mostly done with them since you NEED events to level.
